About Mizzou Training Table
Inspired by a 1978 article in Ebony about the Deer Lake Training Camp, the Cultural Dinner Series started at Illinois State University and the idea that if we know better as a community, we should do better by each other as community members; it is in that spirit the Mizzou Training Table has been created to provide an extraordinary student experience. Using a food, sport, health and activity-in-culture theme combined with an emphasis on good nutrition, the program seeks to underscore the common bond all people share through positive living, physical activity and food. Perhaps if we eat together and talk together, celebrating what we have in common, we will be able to see each other more clearly, gaining a deeper appreciation for our respective journeys. As Dr. Maya Angelou once said, “We are all human; therefore, nothing human can be alien to us.” Nourishing our bodies and our minds at the table in fellowship seems to be a good place to remind us that we are all human, and caring deeply about each other should be our better nature.
Join Laila Ali on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Plaza 900 for an inspirational evening complete with a community dinner, live music and an open conversation with Laila.
The menu will include Shrimp, Avocado & Grapefruit Salad, Laila’s Famous Oven Fried Chicken, Parmesan-Dill Crusted Sockeye Salmon, Brown Rice Pilaf, Glazed Brussels Sprouts, Grilled Winter Squash, Rustic Ciabatta and Strawberry & Lemon Trifle.
This event is sold out, and we are now accepting names to be added to the wait list. If seats open up, they will become available to the wait list at a first-come, first-served basis.
